There are literally thousands of places that you can host a fabulous Chinese wedding, Western wedding and/or an Asian Fusion Wedding in Toronto, New York, Vancouver or southern California wedding ceremony and wedding reception but have you ever thought about having your fairytale wedding in a castle or palace? In the past several weeks, we have already covered restaurants and hotels – the pros and cons, along with some examples of some really great establishments.
This week, we have chosen to focus on castles that can be used as potential wedding venues. While the word castle and palace have been used interchangeably, there are significant differences between the two architectural structures.
The words castle and palace for some, are used interchangeably. However, there are differences between the architectural structures. By definition, we have classified a castle as a fortified, usually walled residence, as of a prince or noble in feudal times. It is usually a large and stately residence, and someone’s home a long time ago. The primary motive of building a castle way back in the day was for protection, but a palace was showcase the wealth and power. It was built to suit the owner’s tastes and requirements. However, we will not argue over semantics as we believe that these palace like castles are a gorgeous setting for a wedding.
We will provide some examples of castles in each respective geographical locations. These castles are NOT listed in any particular order. Please feel free to comment below about your Toronto, New York, Vancouver and southern California wedding reception venue search and how you ended up choosing the your picture perfect place.

Pros – If you are planning that Cinderella fairytale wedding theme, then this is the ideal location for you. The setting sets the stage for your perfect princess wedding. Castles are architectural masterpieces with pretty grounds or estate gardens for outdoor wedding photo options and some really great indoor spots as well such as staircases, libraries, dramatic archways, etc. If you are looking for a time honoured tradition, then the decor in a historical castle would be in keeping with your theme as well. Wedding guests will be transported through time and be delighted by the surrounding ambiance.

For a Royal mint, yes, you too can host your wedding at the Palace of Versailles.
Cons – If you don’t like the existing decor, there might not be much you can do about it. These castles and palaces are usually landmark historical sites. Therefore there will likely be restrictions on decor. These buildings are usually tourist attractions. Therefore the hours of when public access is available, may impact on your wedding day schedule. They may also not be equipped with modern day conveniences like air conditioning, wifi, drop down AV screens, built in speakers, etc. Therefore, you will need to consider potential extra fees for set-up and dismantling. You would likely be prudent to inquire about scheduled maintenance and restoration periods – after all, these are relatively old buildings that need some tender loving care from time to time.
