If you love the Southern California sun, then you should really consider hosting your wedding in the Los Angeles area. It really should be nicknamed the “Sun Shine State” instead of Florida – in our humble Canadian opinion! However, “The Golden State” also depicts the California state very well indeed since gold is the official mineral symbol of this state. California is a western U.S. state that stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific coast for almost 900 miles (almost 1500 kilometres). The state showcases dramatic terrain encompassing cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the arid Mojave Desert.
There are so many reasons why a bride and groom should host their wedding ceremony and wedding reception in California. First, the weather is usually fabulous. It sure beats out Toronto nasty winters and Vancouver’s frequent rains. Where else can you entertain hosting a wedding celebration completely outdoors all year around? Second, out of town guests coming from overseas will save several hours of flight time; instead of flying to the east coast. Third, there are so many fun things to do and see in California that wedding guests will want to stay a little longer just to enjoy the sights.
With all this being said, here are our favorite hotel locations for a wedding. Most of these hotels are accustomed to Chinese weddings, Southeast Asian weddings and multi-cultural, and/or inter-faith celebrations. If you have had a wedding or attended a wedding at any of these locations, please comment below and tell us how your experience was and what you loved about the hotel.

The company’s commitment to water conservation and the use of recycled water at the resort comprises a major multi-faceted undertaking that each year repurpose more than 200 million gallons of water. In fact, the resort’s entire landscaping and golf courses are irrigated with recycled water. Therefore, you should have green scenery for wedding photographs all year around – even through dry seasonal spells.

From all the reading we have gleaned through, we found some “insider” tips:
- Consider asking for tables number 14 or 20 at the Coliseum Pool & Grill for meals. It offers the best combination of quiet and views.
- If you book a poolside cabana during the warmer months which is highly recommended, cabana number nine has the best ocean view

Langham Pasadena – is located at 1401 South Oak Knoll Avenue in Pasadena, California. It opened in February 1907 and has changed ownership a few times over its majestic 100 years. Tests conducted on the hotel showed that after the 1985 devastating Mexico city earthquake, the main building to be unsafe. The main wing closed on October 20, 1985. After a year of debate and numerous pleas from preservationists, Pasadena voters chose on May 19, 1987, to give zoning approval to the demolition of the main building. During the demolition and reconstruction of the main wing, the two historic ballrooms, the Viennese Ballroom and the Georgian Ballroom (originally the hotel’s theater) were retained and incorporated into the new hotel, in addition to the other outbuildings such as the pool, lanai and bungalows, which were not required to be demolished.
The $100-million reconstruction project revealed 10 stained-glass windows made of opalescent glass in the Georgian Ballroom. The new building largely replicated the exterior of the original, but offered modern facilities. It is a very cool, old hotel with a unique history sitting on 23 acres. It has celebrated a century of weddings, parties, charity events and vacations for guests from Pasadena and beyond. The hotel is known for its ornate architecture, lavish ballrooms and The Picture Bridge, a wooden bridge over a ravine on the hotel property that is decorated with a series of oil paintings of California landscapes. They were given 4 stars by Forbes Travel Guide in 2015.

Four Seasons Westlake Village – is located at 2 Dole Drive, Westlake Village, California. It is about one hour from LAX (Los Angeles airport). They say that the coastal breezes seep through canyons to allow Westlake to stay up to 10 degrees cooler and considerably less smoggy than nearby San Fernando Valley during the summer months. This might be ideal for wedding guests who are not use to the Southern California heat.
The hotel feels quite luxurious and we really loved some of the antique artifacts on display. Some of these items could be featured as a backdrop to a Chinese tea ceremony. The stunning Chinese pagoda will help make you feel like you’ve stepped into another time period and world.
