Fabulous Boutique Hotels in Los Angeles and Southern California for a Wedding

If you love the Southern California sun, then you should really consider hosting your wedding in the Los Angeles area.  It really should be nicknamed the “Sun Shine State” instead of Florida – in our humble Canadian opinion!  However, “The Golden State” also depicts the California state very well indeed since gold is the official mineral symbol of this state.  California is a western U.S. state that stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific coast for almost 900 miles (almost 1500 kilometres).   The state showcases dramatic terrain encompassing cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the arid Mojave Desert.

There are so many reasons why a bride and groom should host their wedding ceremony and wedding reception in California.  First, the weather is usually fabulous.  It sure beats out Toronto nasty winters and Vancouver’s frequent rains.  Where else can you entertain hosting a wedding celebration completely outdoors all year around?  Second, out of town guests coming from overseas will save several hours of flight time; instead of flying to the east coast.  Third, there are so many fun things to do and see in California that wedding guests will want to stay a little longer just to enjoy the sights.

With all this being said, here are our favorite hotel locations for a wedding.  Most of these hotels are accustomed to Chinese weddings, Southeast Asian weddings and multi-cultural, and/or inter-faith celebrations.  If you have had a wedding or attended a wedding at any of these locations, please comment below and tell us how your experience was and what you loved about the hotel.

Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills – is located at 300 South Doheny Drive, Los Angeles California.  This is NOT be to confused with Beverly Wilshire hotel which is another Four Seasons hotel and a different hotel altogether.  The Four Seasons Los Angeles has plenty of choices for event settings that provides flexibility to personalize your event. Or choose one of our other beautiful spaces for an intimate pre-wedding celebration, dinner or outdoor party.  They were given 5 stars by Forbes Travel Guide in 2015.

SLS Hotel Beverly Hills – this was one of our personal favorites when we went on a hotel search for a client a few years ago.  Fantastica interiors by Philippe Starck and culinary arts from the imagination of Chef José Andrés.  We are sure you will agree that this place would be a fabulous place to host a wedding.  It was actually the location of Kelly Dooley’s wedding as shown on “Say Yes to the Dress” television series on TLC.

Beverly Hills Hotel – is located at 9641 Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California.  The hotel was built in 1912, before there was even a city called Beverly Hills.  It was in 2012 that the hotel finally earned a formal status of being the city’s first historic landmark when the Beverly Hills City Council voted to designate it as such.  It has been affectionately called “The Pink Palace” over the years.  It has always been closely associated with Hollywood film stars, rock stars and celebrities.  The hotel has hosted some of L.A.s most elegant and prestigious weddings for Hollywood legends, international dignitaries, royalty and locals alike.  From its expansive lush gardens to the magnificent ballrooms, The Beverly Hills Hotel creates the perfect setting for a memorable occasion.

The Resort at Pelican Hill – is located 22701 Pelican Hill Road South, Newport Coast, California and approximately 45 minutes South of Los Angeles (LAX).  Newport beach is the home to Newport Harbor which is also located in Orange County, California.   The Resort at Pelican Hill is one of the world’s finest Five-Star, Five-Diamond destinations offering unparalleled service and luxury.  The Resort spans 504 acres along the coast of the Newport Beach, of which the golf course takes up approximately 400 acres.  The Resort is large enough to have its own streets and traffic lights as well as four restaurants.  The sunny climate of Southern California allows for indoor spaces to open up to the outdoors and expansive panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.

Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, the resort provides shuttles to Crystal Cove State Beach and Newport Beach’s Fashion Island shopping center.  This entire resort was designed to look and feel like an Italian seaside village.  The 136-foot-diameter pool, which the resort says is one of the largest circular pools in the world, is surrounded by arches and columns, and with a row of 18 private cabanas and the Coliseum Pool & Grill on the terrace above it.  Mar Vista is the part of the resort that houses the wedding venues, and is designed to offer total privacy. The separate entrance and dedicated staff will ensure complete exclusivity.

The Resort at Pelican Hill was also designed and constructed from the ground up with environmental conservation in mind.  The company’s commitment to water conservation and the use of recycled water at the resort comprises a major multi-faceted undertaking that each year repurpose more than 200 million gallons of water. In fact, the resort’s entire landscaping and golf courses are irrigated with recycled water.  Therefore, you should have green scenery for wedding photographs all year around – even through dry seasonal spells.

From all the reading we have gleaned through, we found some “insider” tips:

  1. Consider asking for tables number 14 or 20 at the Coliseum Pool & Grill for meals. It offers the best combination of quiet and views.
  2. If you book a poolside cabana during the warmer months which is highly recommended, cabana number nine has the best ocean view

Langham Pasadena – is located at 1401 South Oak Knoll Avenue in Pasadena, California.  It opened in February 1907 and has changed ownership a few times over its majestic 100 years.  Tests conducted on the hotel showed that after the 1985 devastating Mexico city earthquake, the main building to be unsafe.  The main wing closed on October 20, 1985.  After a year of debate and numerous pleas from preservationists, Pasadena voters chose on May 19, 1987, to give zoning approval to the demolition of the main building.  During the demolition and reconstruction of the main wing, the two historic ballrooms, the Viennese Ballroom and the Georgian Ballroom (originally the hotel’s theater) were retained and incorporated into the new hotel, in addition to the other outbuildings such as the pool, lanai and bungalows, which were not required to be demolished.

The $100-million reconstruction project revealed 10 stained-glass windows made of opalescent glass in the Georgian Ballroom. The new building largely replicated the exterior of the original, but offered modern facilities.  It is a very cool, old hotel with a unique history sitting on 23 acres.  It has celebrated a century of weddings, parties, charity events and vacations for guests from Pasadena and beyond.  The hotel is known for its ornate architecture, lavish ballrooms and The Picture Bridge, a wooden bridge over a ravine on the hotel property that is decorated with a series of oil paintings of California landscapes.   They were given 4 stars by Forbes Travel Guide in 2015.

Imagine you and your fiancée encircled by family and friends on the bridge of the Japanese Garden. The step-down ponds and gently flowing waterfalls provide a serene backdrop for your ceremony in this peaceful oasis. Or alternatively, the Horseshoe Garden is a picturesque site with a magnificent entrance down a grand stone staircase. It’s one of the few Los Angeles County locations where you can enter in a horse-drawn carriage or elephant. The ballrooms at The Langham are both elegant and historic and adorned with gold-gild arched 25-foot vaulted ceilings, stunning chandeliers, stained glass windows and gold framed 100-year-old oil paintings. With an abundance of luxury and beauty, this is where your fairytale begins.

Four Seasons Westlake Village – is located at 2 Dole Drive, Westlake Village, California.  It is about one hour from LAX (Los Angeles airport).  They say that the coastal breezes seep through canyons to allow Westlake to stay up to 10 degrees cooler and considerably less smoggy than nearby San Fernando Valley during the summer months.  This might be ideal for wedding guests who are not use to the Southern California heat.

The hotel feels quite luxurious and we really loved some of the antique artifacts on display.  Some of these items could be featured as a backdrop to a Chinese tea ceremony.  The stunning Chinese pagoda will help make you feel like you’ve stepped into another time period and world.

The hotel has an array of wedding venues from the largest Grand Ballroom that can accommodate up to 1000 guests to something more intimate like the Malibu room for receptions or banquets and can accommodate up to 120 guests when set up with a dance floor.

Debbie - I have to say Wendy, your blog was spot on for what we offer here in “sunny” California. The venue styles vary widely allowing your brides a wide selection to choose from in regards to their personnel taste and decor designs.

Having helped with weddings in Canada in the past, where the weather can change within minutes, our consistent and usually predictable weather makes planning a wedding, whether completely outdoors or both outdoor and indoors a great deal easier.

Also, as you mentioned, it allows your special day to more than 10 hours of fun, it can become a week of fun, adventure and memories.

If you ever have a bride that chooses California as a destination for her wedding, I would love to be able to assist you.
